Durga Puja, a major festival in West Bengal, also involves elaborate rituals and offerings where rice is an essential part.

Rice, being a staple food, plays a significant role in the fasting rituals during Navratri. While some devotees consume "Vrat ki Khichdi," a savory dish made with rice and special fasting ingredients, others opt for "Sabudana Khichdi" or "Kuttu Ka Dosa," all of which are delicious rice-based fasting foods.


In West Bengal and other eastern states, Durga Puja is a grand and colorful festival celebrated with immense enthusiasm. Elaborate pandals (temporary structures) are erected to house beautifully crafted idols of Goddess Durga, depicting her slaying the demon Mahishasura. People throng the pandals, dressed in their finest attire, to offer prayers and seek blessings.


Rice forms an integral part of the Bhog (offering) during Durga Puja. Devotees offer "Khichdi," "Pulao," "Payasam," and other rice-based dishes to the goddess as a gesture of devotion. After the puja, the Prasad, which includes rice-based sweets like "Chaler Payesh" (rice pudding), is distributed among the devotees, symbolizing divine blessings and prosperity.


Navratri and Durga Puja epitomize the reverence towards the goddess and the cultural diversity of India, with rice being an integral element of the festivities and spiritual observances.
